Managing mental health can be hard, but add all the other stuff into it, and it can feel almost impossible. I promise, you are not alone. Here are a few things that help me.

MANAGING TIME

I know this is not the easiest to do. I have so much trouble with time management myself. Here are a few things that do help.

To-Do Lists: I know I know, that dreaded word. But they really do help. For me, being able to see what has to be done, and having them in an order to keep the most important at the top, works! And you never have to worry about finishing it either. As long as you got the important items checked off.

Don’t be quick to lose your temper either. I know, I know. It’s like “what does that have to do with managing my time?” I can promise you, it has a lot to do with it. Think about it, if you lose your temper, what happens? Yup, you hyper focus on what went wrong, why it went wrong, and how mad you are it went wrong. And next thing you know, it is two hours later and you haven’t gotten anything else done.

Breathe. Pretty self explanatory right?! Actually not this time. Breathing in a time of stress or crisis can be one of the hardest things to do. So many bad things can come of it. But I don’t want to go there because all of us already know. So just breathe!

SELF CARE

Oh man! This one is huge, even at work. Self care is one of the most underrated activities, even at home.

Step away when needed is the one I can not say to people loud enough. It is not worth it to stay in a bad situation. If the job wants to force you to do something that is horrible for your mental health, force them to find someone else to do it. I promise, you will find another job. Millions of jobs to only the one of you….I know for me who would win.

Grab a cup of coffee or tea. That is one of my favorite go to’s. I know I know, not all places of employment will allow this, but if you can, I would try it for sure. I know it helps me when things get super stressful.

This one is super cliche but it also works. Find a spot to be alone for a minute or so and count down from ten. You will be so focused on counting and breathing, it will center you back up and everything should be good.

There are some things that will never change, but something that should and something you have full control over is yourself. Yes, that’s right, you are the only person who can change what is going on with you. That being said, try these things. Take care of yourself and make sure you are good.
